file icon change

I have been running w2K/SP4 24/7 for months, had to shutdown one evening.

Next day cold boot, the text file icon has changed. the file association
is unchanged. As a text editor I use Edxor, similar to Notepad.

The icon I use is right out of the Shell32 folder. I go to Explorer/File
Types, Txt, change default icon, browse to my icon saved in another
folder, etc.

It usually stays persistant over months, but in cold boots it every so
often changes. At the moment in File Types, my desired icon shows, in a
icon change utility my desired icon shows, but on cold boot, the actual
*.txt file icon is plain white.

It will not change back to the desired icon.

How to do that?

How to prevent these damned icon changes on cold boot, as I intend to do
from now on?

This is the same issue I had in W98 on another computer, random icon
changes.

If you have TweakUI installed, you could try the Repair feature to rebuild all
Explorer icons.

If you don't have TweakUI, you may want to download and install it to use this
feature:

The TweakUI utility for Windows 2000 can be downloaded from here:
