cordless mouse grief -- how to trace?

After a year or so of working just fine, my Logitech cordless optical mouse
now locks up, but frees up again upon reboot. Only the cursor freezes; the
rest of the OS (XP Home) continues to work -- at least the parts of it that
don't require mouse control. I've tried to isolate the mouse and
transmitter from potential sources of RF interference, with no effect. Is
there a log somewher in XP that would record a software clash if that's what
it is?

Have you tried installing the latest drivers?

Posted 'as is'. If there are any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, they
were a direct result of my fingers and brain not being synchronized or my
lack of caffeine.

I'm not an expert on cordless devices, but have you replaced the
batteries?
