Cordless Keyboard and Mouse on Windows XP

I just bought a MS cordless keyboard and mouse 4000. I installed the
software and hooked it up according to instructions using the USB2 port. I
then disconnected my wired keyboard and mouse from the computer. All was
well until I closed down the computer. When I restarted it, I received a
message telling me my keyboard wasn't connected or not working.



The only way I can use this wireless set is to use the PA/2 connection.



I'm running Windows XP Prof. Can someone tell my how I can get this wireless
set to work using my USB port?

no doubt that your motherboard
is hardwired for a ps2 keyboard.

keep in mind that if
you ever need to use
your windows setup cd,
you will need a regular
keyboard to maneuver around
the options.

Restart the computer, go into the BIOS and enable legacy USB support.

wireless sets works, I'll leave well enough alone.

You're welcome. There is nothing to be scared of going into the BIOS. Just
don't change things willy nilly. When the computer restarts there should be
displayed a brief message stating what key(s) to press to enter setup
(BIOS). Take a look around in there to see what it contains. Just entering
and looking doesn't change anything. Activating legacy USB support should
not have any negative effects even if you don't attach the keyboard/mouse to
a USB port.

I too have just bought the MS cordless keyboard and mouse 4000. The KB works
fine but not the mouse. The mouse is sitting near the wireless receiver and
still nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for them both but
still nothing. I even tried the PA/2 connection and it doesn't want to work
for me. It's very frustrating when you want things to work and they don't. I
did enable the mouse / kb usb settings in BIOS. Any ideas why my mouse isn't
working. I have tried different sets of batteries as well for it. Ther are 2
Energizer rechargables currently in the mouse.

I too have just bought the MS cordless keyboard and mouse 4000. The KB
works fine but not the mouse. The mouse is sitting near the wireless
receiver and still nothing.

Try in control panel under mouse. There should be a "connect" button.
Alternatively if you study the mouse carefully there may be small hole which
you can reset with a ball point pen tip.

Does the wired kb and mouse have to removed for the Microsoft Wireless
4000 to work after it is installed?
