A computer store salesman told a computer friend,
To copy all of your E-mails, just copy the folder Documents and Settings
and all of your E-mail data will be copied and moved to the new location.

Is that true? Will all the E-mail data be saved in a new location?

Will there be any problems to retrieving or restoring all of the E-mail data?

Your wisdom will be appreciated.
Thank You,

Hi Ray 10x10,

While true, you would be copying more than you wish to copy.

"Drive Letter":\Documents and Settings\Ray 10x10\Local
Settings\Application Data\Identities

Go into Folder Options. Click View. Locate Hidden files and folders. Dot
Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply then click OK.

"Local Settings" is a hidden folder. You can't see it, if you have
dotted "Do not show hidden files and folders".

If you are using a Sync type of Backup program, like for example, Smart
Sync Pro, you can copy everything within Identities folder and its
sub-folders to say another partition and to a named folder on that
partition. For Example, "E-mail Backup".

So, if viewing from Explore, you would see "Drive Letter:\E-mail
Backup\Identities\ plus all its sub-folders and files.

Ugh! Most sales people at computer stores (especially the big chain stores)
are usually hired because of their willingness to accept something close to
minimum wage, not because of their technical proficiency. If they knew
anything, they could almost certainly get a better job. There are some
exceptions, but computer store salesman are generally among the *poorest*
sources of computer information.

That depends on what E-mail program you use. Even if it were true, there's
*far* more in that folder than E-mail, and it's therefore a very curious
choice of ways to back up E-mail.
