(any help most appreciated)

My copy of a pc game has been used so much and been kicked around so much
that it often doesn't load. Is there any way I can make a copy of the disc on
to a normal blank cd with only one disc drive so that i might 'save it's
life'?

many thanks for your help in advance.

Depending on your software - yes. Just make an image of the old cd and burn
it to the new. Some software will allow you to have the source and
destination in the same drive. You might look for a trial version of Nero or
EasyCD or NTI cd maker - all would work.

If you're asking whether you can do it with the native XP cd burner - I do
not believe you can.

If this CD is one which you use regularly and perhaps would like improved
performace, as well as increased reliability, you could consider creating a
Virtual CD.

Virtual CDs are just files on your hard disk - no possibility to loose, no
dust, no scratches or rifts, no need to search for necessary CD title.

Look here for more information:

If you only have the Windows XP CD burning application and would need to buy
one in order to copy this one CD: then consider making a virtual CD on your
hard drive.

Daemon Tools does the same thing but only for 4 virtual CD drives - but
then it is free (CD-ROM Emulator costs $30). Daemon Tools also includes
some overrides of copy protection so you can use just the ISO image of
the CD to run the game rather than have to worry about using RAW-DAO 96
mode to burn the CD copy, if your CD-R drive supports it.

I suggest

With that you can make an ISO file image of the whole CD to hard disk,
and then burn a new one from that
