copy function malfunctioning

Hi,
I'm running XP with IE and MS Word. If I copy something from a webpage into
a word document I get this funny little red box that looks like the thinggy
below:
If I then select and copy and paste a second time, it usually works fine.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this step?

Have you tried to change the View/Encoding settings and see if you get
better results?
