copy function not working

Hi,
I'm running XP with IE and MS Word. If I copy something from a webpage into
a word document I get this funny little red box that looks like this:
If I then select and copy and paste a second time, it usually works fine.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this step?

If Office clipboard is enabled, opening Word starts that component which in
turn empties the Windows clipboard.

Turn off Office clipboard OR open Word and then do your copy/paste.
