Cookies Folder

I just cleaned out the incredibly long list of cookies in Documents and
Settings/Cookies even though it means I'm facing a little more work logging
into my regular sites. However, there is one file called "INDEX.DAT" which
I did not delete because I don't know what it's for. Can someone please
tell me what it's for and if it's necessary to keep it. I get tons of spam
e-mail which I suspect comes from the incredibly long list of cookies that I
have.

Thanks.

You cannot delete the index.dat file without rebooting and using a batch
file or some 3rd party program.

You'll get this massage if you try to delete the index.dat file.

---------------------------
Error Deleting File or Folder
---------------------------
Cannot delete index: It is being used by another person or program.

Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

OK

And it's unlikely that cookies have given your e-mail address away. You may
have posted it a few times where you shouldn't have.
