all help appreciated garvan

You must have visited the web page of the Mark and Spencer department store.
No biggie. Just delete it. It has your name on it because that's the name of
the account you are using in XP.

Hi

Have you, or anyone else that uses your PC, been to the Marks and Spencer
web site recently?

Cookies are stored by many sites where you log on in order (say) to make
a purchase, so that they can identify you should you come back without
need to keep information on you on their own databases - or maybe just
an account number so that they can retrieve your account without your
entering it again. This is safer for you; you can delete the file, but
it might then ask you to enter detail should you go there again. This
will be roughly equivalent to using the store's loyalty card on making a
purchase in-store
