Converting to NTFS error message?

When I run the Convert command (at a cmd prompt) Convert c: /fs:ntfs,
I get the following message:

"Convert cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
Convert may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED
HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n)"

What do I do? Help! That "INVALID" word scares the $#!^ out
of me......

You can't convert c: at the command prompt anyway, assuming that's where
your system lives - you'd have to schedule it for the next time you
restart. I assume that you have already read all the info about how to
do this that you can find at:

http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm

If not, it'd be a good plan to do so.

Thanks for the link - As to the message about converting after a restart,
that message followed the first one.

Funny, I got tired of waiting for a reply from this group and went to search
the MSKB with the text:

"ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE
INVALID"

I didn't get much help there but when I put the same text in Yahoo's
search engine I got this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307881

That explained the problem in detail. I restarted the convert command
and hit "Y" to "dismount" the drive. No problems. I then went on and
rebooted. Everything went fine and I'm now running both my drives
(60g & 120g) on NTFS.....

You reply Y to that and Y to the next one, and reboot to allow it to be
done before Windows loads.

First though read up a bit more at www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.htm

The MSKB search engine is pitiful. Use www.google.com or
groups.google.com. The former will find MSKB articles better than the MS
search engine does.
