Converting a Database

Hello -

I posted this in the Microsoft Community and it was suggested that I try it
here. I'm sorry, but I do not have any further details...

I have started working with a group of people who are having problems
opening what appears to be a '97 Access database. When they try to open it in
Access 2003, the "convert" dialog box appears. After clicking OK to convert,
the following message appears:

"This operations is not supported for Microsoft Office Access1.x database."

We cannot get the database to convert or open. Does anyone know what this
means?

They do not know what information is contained in the database, would like
to view it, and are also concerned about creating new databases that will not
open in future versions. Unfortunately, the person who created this database
is no longer available to ask questions of.

Thank you for any feedback you can provide.

Access 1.0 and 1.1 are the first versions which were in use in 1992-3. It is
still possible to convert them if you know someone with a copy of Access 1.0
through 2.0. Once converted to 2.0, it will need conversion to a later
version and there are tools available to do that.

Depending upon how intricate the code is, it can be converted as well, but
some manual operations may be necessary. Before proceeding, make several
copies of the database file, and always work on 1 of the copies. Access 1.0
and 1.1 weren't as stable as most of the later versions. If you have a copy
of Access 97, you should be able to open and convert it.

I still have the old versions of Access, dating all the way back to the
first one, but not the machines to run them all on. If I need anything
earlier than Access 97 (which I still have loaded on several machines) I
would have to format a machine, load the system, then start the conversion
process. That is a fair amount of work and cannot be done for free.
Hopefully, you will find someone who can/will do it for you inexpensively.
If not, my email address is at the first website listed in my sig below.

As it happens, I still have Access 2.0 installed. If you'ld like to email me
the (zipped) database I'll see if I can convert it for you. Revising any code
would be billable but a simple upgrading I'll do for free.

Send to jvinson <at> wysard of info <dot> com. Edit out the blanks and replace
the punctuation appropriately of course.

Access 1.1 is *fifteen years old* - released in 1993! In the computer world
that's ancient; do you drive a 1937 Ford?

You certainly cannot purchase Access 1.1 from Microsoft, and probably not from
anyplace else either; and it would have difficulty running on most modern
machines (they have too much memory). You would probably have to create a
virtual machine probably running Windows 3.1 or perhaps Windows 98.

What is STF, and what is it intended to do? Would it be possible to extract
the data from the table and build a modern application?

First, Thinks John For Your Answer;
I Will Explain To U What Happened With my Database Exactly :

- I Have a database developped with access 1.1 in 1993 (Management of
stock,employee,Payroll,accounting,archive...)
this database is very very very stable, really excellent !!!

- I Want to relook and progress this application (300 Mb)

- With This Database, i have much files : mda, mdb, ldb, I have too an
install GUI
developped with access 1.1 (I Can't Run It !!)

- I Have Too : SYSTEM.MDA,ANALYSE.MDA,UTILITY.MDA,WIZARD.MDA

- I Have the admin account (ADmin) stocked in SYSTEM.MDA but this account
have not permission
to convert database.

- If I Create a database with Acccess 97, And I go to <File><get external
data>>import>,
I Can Import All Tables, query, report, macro, of Database but no Forms and
modules !!??
the error message is "you don't have permission to import or export or link"
The Problem That my Account Is The Admin !!??

The Problem Too That The Admin have not permission in Database : when i
import table
in a new database and i go to "user and group permissions" and i change
"object type"
to "database" :
i found that Admin have not permission to modify design
or read data ...but he can open, run administer , so Admin have permission
only
in table, request...but no database !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Problem Now Is To import Forms And Modules from My Old Database or
converting
my old Database.

Thanks
