Control Panel / User Accounts

I gotta problem with my user accounts on my XP. There's only one user on this
machine ... ME ... but I cant change my user account pic that appears on the
start menu near my name. I tried clicking the pic from the start menu, tried
going into control panel and then clicking user accounts in there and even
tried going in the control panel and then going into appearence and themes
and clicking user account pic from the left sidebar but I get nothing. What
actually happens is that when i move my cursor on all the links i just
mentioned; the cursor turns into a hand which means it's clickable but when I
do click on them ... nothing happens at all! no menus open, no msgs pop up..
just nothing happens. This is weird .. i do recall i used to change the
profile pic from the start menu ... i've done it before ... but i need help
now. Thnx all.
I have to add that the the logon screen doesnt come up when i start XP ... i
didnt need it so i turned that option off ( a long time ago when the control
panel user accounts link was working)

I guess system restore sounds like a good idea BUT not so good when the last
time i changed my profile pic was over a year ago! and i got like 10 restore
points on my PC ... dont know which one is problem free! there has to be
another way am sure!

I wanna add that I tried the sfc \scannow option and the problem is still
the same.

Thnx in advance.

What exactly happens when you click "Change Picture" button? Try this
command from Start/Run

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Using Process Explorer and monitoring the mshta process (which launches the
user account applet), the extra modules loaded are gdiplus.dll. This makes
me believe that the problem may be with your video card drivers, and not
with system files.
