Control panel - user accounts

Hi all,

System: XP Pro on P4 machine with 512RAM

I gotta problem with my user accounts on my XP. There's only one user on this
machine ... that's only Myself ... but I cant change my user account pic
that appears on the
start menu near my name. I tried clicking the pic from the start menu, tried
going into control panel and then clicking user accounts in there and even
tried going in the control panel and then going into appearence and themes
and clicking user account pic from the left sidebar but I get nothing. What
actually happens is that when i move my cursor on all the links i just
mentioned; the cursor turns into a hand which means it's clickable but when I
do click on them ... nothing happens at all! no menus open, no msgs pop up..
just nothing happens. This is weird .. i do recall i used to change the
profile pic from the start menu ... i've done it before ... but i need help
now. Thnx all.
I have to add that the the logon screen doesnt come up when i start XP ... i
didnt need it so i turned that option off ( a long time ago when the control
panel user accounts link was working)

I guess system restore sounds like a good idea BUT not so good when the last
time i changed my profile pic was over a year ago! and i got like 10 restore
points on my PC ... dont know which one is problem free! there has to be
another way am sure! Some registry value I could check maybe? I dont know
but I really need major help :)

I wanna add that I tried the sfc \scannow option and the problem is still
the same.

And I also typed/used " regsvr32 shimgvw.dll " (which was suggested to me by
someone here and i gotta say I dont know what the heck it does), in the
start/run menu and it gave me a msg saying that it was successful but belive
it or not the same problem exists!

Help needed.

Thnx in advance.

It won't work without your using the Welcome Screen. To have the best of
both worlds, activate the Welcome Screen and then:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, left click your user name then clear the Users Must
Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then click
OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the "user name
and password" for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Tip:

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
