This a very wierd problem and is sporadic.

Sometimes, my control panel window gets split into two
panes. All the icons are to the left hand side with the
scroll bar next to them, and to the right is a big empty
white space. Other modules also do not function properly,
eg. the add remove panel becomes empty, my internet
connection status is not shown, windows task bar stops
responding to mouse clicks.

When i restart the system is usually ok.

The problem is sporadic, sometimes happens after 5 mins of
usage, sometimes not for 2 hours, sometimes not at all.
But it is regular enough to be quite frustrating. Have
checked for viruses and spy ware and found none.

please help.

Is computer getting hang?did u check task manger whne this happens?what
doestask manager say?Is there soem application which is using lot of
resources b'se of which other applications get hang.

I seem to have the exact same problem. My control panel
consists of 2 rows of icons on the left hand side which
usually happens after about 5 minutes of use on the
computer. After the control panel moves itself to the
left, other problems seem to occur because of this which
dont seem to happen when the control panel looks as it
should. Other problems i have noticed are that Windows
Update will not load, I cannot copy and paste any text,
certain links on web pages do not work and Microsoft
Office does not operate as it should. I have no idea what
is causing this problem and it is very annoying. As i
said, these problems only occur once the control panel has
moved, during the first few minutes on my computer all
works well and looks as it should.

If anybody out there has some idea what might be causing
this problem or if you have any suggestions on how to
remove this annoyance, please get back to me. I have
downloaded SP4 from the MS website with no luck of solving
this problem. I have even tried formatting the hard drive
and installing a fresh copy of Win200 Pro but the problem
seems to find its way back. Please help.

Thank you very much,
Matthew C Locke.

Yes Matthew,
Exact same problem, i dont know what it is. I have checked task manager,
everything seems fine. Nothing unusual installed. I too have SP4 installed.
Problem continues.
