Control Panel Icon

H

Hagar

When I open Windows Explorer, the Control Panel folder icon has changed from
wherever it was originally, to the Adobe Acrobat Document icon. Re-booting
didn't restore it and left-clicking on it didn't present any options
allowing me to change it manually. How can I change it back ??

TIA,

Control Panel|Display|Appearance|Advanced and try changing the icon size by
one, apply changes, then go back in and change the size back. This should
cause the operating system to rebuild the shelliconcache file which may be
in a corrupted state.

Display the hidden files & folders. To do this go to:

START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/FOLDER OPTIONS

Click the VIEW tab

Click the SHOW HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS option

Click APPLY

Click OK

-----------------------------------------------------------

Now, navigate to the WINNT directory

Find the file 'ShellIconCache' (without quotes) & delete it. Once the
computer is restarted the icons should display normally. If not, increase
the icon cache (see below):

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Increase the size of the Icon Cache:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Key Name: 'Max Cached Icons' (without quotes)

Value: Change to '4096'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this helps
