I have sort of a strange problem. It started a few days ago, cant recall
installing anything or downloading anything. The problem is that the control
panel just wont come up when i click it.. It takes everything from about 5 to
15 minutes an then all of a sudden it pops up. No problem opening other
applications, folders of files. Anyone know what the OS does when opening
control panel, just to give me an idea on where to start looking, since
everything else works fine. I run Win XP with sp2.

Control Panel is located at C (for example):\WINDOWS\system32\control.exe .
You can double-click on "control.exe" to get the Window and then make
changes/adjustments.

Wes is right. Read the link contents carefully.
I was answering your question as to CP's LOCATION,
NOT as a solution to your problem.

Sorry to say that none of those helped, tried first to disable all the third
party extentions, with no improvement. Enabled that again, and disabled all
the non MS Shell extentions, with no improvement either. If its any help to
figuring out the problem, i noticed that i had the same "hang" problem
right-klicking on the DT to get to ther properties tab there, and that
actually was helped with disabling one of the intel shell extentions, i asume
it was the intel graphic driver that put something there. But with all the
non MS shell extentions disabled, it it could not be another one of those
causing the problem right?

I finally figured out what was happening. When starting the controlpanel, the
process igfxsrvc.exe started running. Killing this popped up the control
panel. Downloaded an updated the driver for the intel graph-card. Works like
a charm now. Thanks for your inputs!

Joey

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Keep having fun. :-)
