Control Panel Admin Tools

J

Jon

"Administration Tools" is not in it's Folder in the
Control Panel.

When the Folder is opended all I see is a desktop.ini file.

Where has it gone and how to get it back?

I have read several posts on this issue and none seem to
discuss how to retreive it to the Control Panel

Help is apprecaited.

Hi Jon,

If you're using the Administrators account yet you still don't
have Administration Tools available, use the registry patch
on line 54 at: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your reply.

But it did not work ... I may have done it wrong. I
downloaded the file "msi.reg", executed it and got a reply
that "it" was added to my registry. Then re-boot. But
still did not show up in the Control Panel.

Now ... I have another machine with XP. Looking at
shortcuts in the Admin Tools in the Control Panel I could
identify the files. Then found them on the other computer
and made my own Control Panel > Admin Tools folder.

So I have what I wanted. But, still would like to know
how to put it back as it should be.

Thanks again, Jon Watkins

Hi,

I agree. :) The patch should have fixed that, however
your workaround works which is fantastic! What we do
out on the field in those types of situation is repair system
files to return Windows to it's pristine state using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm after of
course scanning the system vigorously with antivirus scanners.
