Don

I JUST SWITCHED TO VISTA AND JUST DISCOVERED THIS HORRIBLE FLAW IN WINDOWS
MAIL--THAT YOU CAN'T SORT AND ACESS YOUR EMAIL CONTACTS INTO FOLDERS. I
CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED. THERE'S NO WAY I CAN FUNCTION WITH
THIS LIMITATION. NOW i HAVE TO GO TO THE TROUBLE OF LOOKING FOR A NEW EMAIL
CLIENT. HOW I WISH I COULD GET MY OUTLOOK EXPRESS BACK. DARN IT. WILL
SOMEONE PLEASE GET WITH IT UP THERE!

Do you want to be treated as shouting and therefore get fewer answers?
If so, type most of your message in CAPITAL LETTERS.

I agree. I have used other mail programs and they are so much better. My
problem is that I go to send another message to someone that I have not
contacted for a short while and they have 'disappeared' from the contact
list. I then have to go into the contacts program and type in the address.
Extremely inconvenient. I am strongly considering using Windows XP and
dropping Windows Vista.

Comments, suggestions, or other pertinent information would be appreciated.

Does the new Windows Live Mail, unlike winmail, permit you to organize your
addresses into folders, that's the question.

Looks like you don't know the difference between the Contacts list
and the separate list of the last 29 addresses you sent messages to
that Windows Mail uses for completing addresses that you type
part of.

To get to the Contacts list while working on a new message, click
on Tools and then Select Recipients in the new message window.

I don't know about folders, but I have my WLM contacts organized
into groups.

He may not know that, but the OP is definitely accurate. Just migrated
myself, and even after I organized my Contacts folders into subfolders
(family, business contacts, students, etc), when I go to select recipients
for a particular email, my entire list of 100+ contacts comes up instead of
being able to open up a folder and just view the list that the message
pertains to. As far as I have read, this is FAD, and nothing has been
announced to address it yet. Dfinitely a pain to deal with.

No, WLM is a desktop app which has all the capabilities Windows
Mail has, plus the ability to accommodate Hotmail accounts.

OK, the name changed. Downloaded it and imported my Contacts. First of all,
I lost all the contacts that were in the subfolders. Pulled them back from
my desktop, and none of the subfolders carried over - just a long list of the
entire contents. Still can't find a way to make subfolders - I can make
groups, but I rarely want to send emails to the entire contents of a group
either. So it looks like I'm still stuck.

WLM has groups (like WM), but unlike WM, those groups can be
edited on the fly. Once a group is on the To line, you can expand it
into individual contacts and delete the ones you don't want to
receive that message.

I saw that - it's kind of a fix but still pretty awkward if I only want to
send it to two or three people in a folder of thirty, and maybe one person
out of another folder of thirty. It will have to work, but not really the
feature I used to have. Definitely don't consider this an "upgrade". Thanks
for trying though.

If you need to send to only a couple of contacts, they probably should be
selected from the complete contacts list instead of from groups.

Which brings us back full circle to the original problem of the entire list
being big and cumbersome to weed through. Nothing that can't be worked
around, just more time consuming and frustrating when OE handled it so wel.
