constant 'acquiring network address'

Hi,
I'm having a problem in connecting to the network from my laptop.
It seems that it can connect but it keeps acquiring ip address. The ip
doesn't change from 0.0.0.0.
I don't remember anything that I might have caused this problem.

I'm using win xp and the NIC is broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet.
Can anyone give me what could be the reason for this problem?
Thanks.

Bypass any router. Swap the ethernet cable end for end. Try ipconfig.
Disable any non-Microsoft s/w firewall. If it's still a 0 or 169IP reinstall
the NIC driver. Try ipconfig. If it's still a 0 or 169IP try netsh winsock
reset catalog at the command prompt. Restart. Try ipconfig.

I removed the NIC driver and reinstalled it and then worked. Thanks!
