Acquiring network address - "fake" ?

Hi,
Sometimes when i boot up my computer fast (there's no much apps and
services), after boot up to desktop, i see "acquiring network
address". I have broadband dsl connection through my router and stucks
"acquiring network address" till i open/close network connections.

But this icon is fake and a bug of SP2 definetely. Because due to that
icon is displayed for some reason of SP2 like does sometimes as
"network cable unplugged" icon, i can browse the net without any
problem and i have IP address and a normal connection. (tested
physically and ipconfig /all).

So, why wasn't that kind of network bugs of SP2 fixed?

I think you're jumping to conclusions when pointing your
finger at a "bug" in WinXP-SP2. Your claim is based on
one single observation. Seeing that there are a few million
machines out there, most with SP2, and that no such
problem has been widely reported, it is far more likely that
the flaw is with your machine. It could be caused by any
of the following: Incorrect configuration / malware / virus
infection / flawed router / intermittent network adapter /
bad cabling / flawed network switch / other reasons.

A good starting point might be to report here in detail
your networking configuration. In particular you should
post the complete output of this command:

ipconfig /all

You should also run some tests with a different router
and without using DHCP.

Recently, I was working on an intermittent ADSL/Router setup.

While testing, I would momentarily remove the power plug from
the router. The primary PC has a manually assigned IP address
from the router's range. When I removed the power plug, the LAC
would report a Cable unplugged. When the router was re-powered
the Network Icon would show the "Acquiring IP address" where
the icon has a moving dot. The icon stayed in this mode until a
reboot was done, even though the pre-assigned IP was active &
the PC had connectivity - Is this the type of situation you're
reporting ?

network notification reports like incorrect "acquiring network
address" which is not constant. I know ipconfig /all configuration
data prooves my computer has received IP already but "acquiring
network address" is still shown, that's why it's a kind of bug and
must be fixed. But besides, XP has a huge amount of bugs, so it's
normal to call it as a "bug" because if it's hardware related problem,
i musn't have accessed the net while seeing fake XP network icons...

I would never dare to pass judgement on a problem if I had
so little evidence and without performing even the most basic
tests. Calling it a "bug" among the "huge amount" [number?]
of WinXP bugs may give you a sense of satisfaction but it
won't solve your problem.

Yes, i wouldn't neither. But i've done some test including giving DHCP/
static IP ones, and it can be seen on both method.

Also i saw that problem on more than one computer which have XP SP2.

However, i don't want to find XP wants but they gave some clues if the
problem is "real" or not.
