Connects with VPN, but sees nothing in Network Neighborhood

I have a user who can connect to the VPN, but sees nothing
when he looks in network neighborhood. He is running
Win2K and has a home network. He says he is not running
ICS. His username and password are the same at home and
through the VPN. He can ping the internal IP of the VPN
server. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows always has trouble seeing network objects over a
VPN (computers, printers, etc...). Especially with Cisco
Pix, but I've found it to be true for most VPN's.

I usually map the computers using the path and then access
the computer through the mapped drive. Either that, or
just type the path into explorer if it isn't frequent
enough to map it.

Hope that helps.

If you are running WINS on your network, have him use your WINS server IP
address in his TCP/IP configuration, and see if that helps.

Browsing across VPN connections is not a simple matter.

Well, it won't help you with browsing, but you can set up an LMHOSTS file
for him to use for name resolution - be very careful esp. where the 0x1b
entry is concerned as the padding spaces are critical. You'll know it's
worked if you run

nbtstat - c

in a command prompt and see the domain entry as 1b.

See MS KB 180094 for help.
