Unable to browse local network after connecting to Cisco VPN on Win2K server

My brother has Win2K Pro installed on his work laptop, which he brings home
for work. Problem is, when he sets up a VPN connection (the VPN solution is
Cisco) he can no longer see any resources on his home network. The work and
home network use different IP schemes, and I have tried adding a route for
the 192.168.1.0 to stay local, but it doesn't work. As soon as he
disconnects, the local resources are available again. Strange thing is, on
my local network, when I connect to a MS VPN Win2K server at my work from XP
Pro (which also has different IP schemes), I can see all the local resources
just fine! Is it a Cisco thing?

Thanx,

Maybe a default gateway setting thing?
