connects at local network but not off network

my boss wants to work at home so i'm trying to configure his work pc to
remote access, when we try to access it from the LAN it will let us sign in
and use his comp from anywhere on the network. But as soon as we try to
connect from outside our network it quits working. It looks like it signs in
with the blue windows background and asks for username and password but no
username or password works.

any help?
