Try disconnecting from your router and connecting again.

Usually, 3 things to try in this scenario:
1. Power cycle the Router
2. Command Prompt, Ipconfig/All (Verify IP, DNS, Gateway)
3. Configure Zone Alarm Trusted Zone for your entire LAN range
(192.168.x.x -> 192.168.x.254)

Corrected (octet to .1)

Sorry to interfere with this discussion, but I have almost exactly the same
problem as described by Zee (and numerous others, looking at similar posts in
this zone). I cannot understand why so many people are having trouble with
networking Windows XP PCs when I thought that newer versions of Wondows were
supposed to support and enhance networking.

All I can see in the various questions posted here are a series of
disappointed and perplexed users who can't get even the simplest of networks
to function properly, with PCs talking to each other.

Having looked at several links I cannot find a clear and detailed
description of the settings that should be used if the 'Set up a home or
small office network' wizard has been run. Any suggestions?

Thanks

The thing that traps most people is security/authentication and firewall
issues (ports 135, 137,138, 139 and 445 need to be open on the LAN for
NetBIOS BUT blocked to and from the Internet). Given most people came from
9x/Me they have never had to worry about authentication. Most also can't
create simple packet filters or configure trusted zones etc without
difficulty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but it doesn't appear to have made a
difference. As you say, I am coming at this from a WIN9x perspective, so I
may not have taken some of the Authentication and Security issues fully into
account.

On the plus side, I can now successfully PING and TRACERT from Client to
Host and vice versa, so it looks as though it must be a security / firewall
type of issue.

As a matter of interest, why does the Home...Network Wizard not set up those
ports automatically, if they are *required* settings?

TIA
