Connection problems after changing ISP

I am using Outlook 2002 under Windows XP Home with Service Pack2. A copy of
Outlook 2002 was included when I purchased my PDA recently. Before that I
used Outlook Express. Outlook worked well until I changed ISP. I have just
changed from btinternet to wanadoo. When I changed ISP I set up the new
account, but when I clicked on the test connection button I was unable to log
in to the SMTP server. I know the settings were correct, because the test
message was sent and received by my webmail account, but an error message
said "Unable to log in to SMTP server. Invalid username and password pair." I
am able to log in to webmail using the same password and username but I would
prefer to be able to read my mail in Outlook.

Can anyone help?

Regards

Confirm that you are using the correct SMTP address for your Wanadoo
connection, the correct settings (port number, SSL on/off) and that you are
authenticating to it. Contact their tech support if you need more help.

Thanks for your reply. I have checked and rechecked that the correct
settings are entered and that port numbers are correct. Surely the correct
receipt on my webmail of the test message proves they are correct? I have
contacted wanadoo help about this problem, but they tell me that they only
support Outlook Express not Outlook and it was they who suggested that I
contact Microsoft about the problem, so I thought I would try here before
using the (rather expensive) Microsoft support options. At the moment it
feels that the buck is being well and truly passed and that no one is willing
to help with what seems to me (although an Outlook newbie, I am a pretty
experienced computer user) as a rather baffling problem. I had hoped that
someone on this group would rise to the challenge!

Not really, because that isn't making the same kind of connection to the
same server....it's apples 'n oranges.

Have you tried configuring an OE mail account identically? (make sure to
tick 'leave a copy of messages on server')
