Connection pop-up

Hi,

When my friend is working on his computer (with dial-up connection to
Internet), he is always getting a prompt to connect to internet (to
dial-up).

I guess an application in the background is causing these prompts.

How can I find WHICH application is causing this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Where should I start, tell your friend that he should throw away his 56
modem,, If you can not be on the internet with speeds faster than 48k,
don't waste your time! Or if he insist's on being a broke fool or " I
live in podunk nowhere and have no broadband ISP's" tell him to make
sure that all other "lame O free dial up internet accounts or
unistalled from his PC. +++Start, settings, control panel, add remove
programs,++++ or tell him to go to what ever ISP inteface he is using
and look through the settings.. you might also want to look through
hardware manager to look and see if there are any extra deivices under
modems, lol 2 56 modem.

any questions write me an email

Installing a firewall such as Zone Alarm should flag and identify
something like that.

Can't tell you which app, but I can tell you how to fix it. Is that
good enuf?

Go to Control Panel; Internet options. You can also get there from
Internet Exploder, Tools; Internet options. Go to the connections tab
and make sure that "never dial a connection" is checked. OK out.

Thanks for your suggestion, Rich.

I'll go to his place and try it.

Just to be sure: this setting will not prevent him from connecting to
Internet when he WANTS to and cliks on the connection icon (he only has
a dial-up connection)?

Have a good day.
