Connection not detected

I'm having problems connecting, then when I do, the connection does nothing
but show the little computer screens and connection rate, all programs still
think it's still off line, any idea's?
 
What are you connecting to?

1. Computer
2. Modem
3. Have a guess

How are you trying to connect?

1. USB Port
2. Ethernet Port
3. Wireless LAN Card

Some more information may help we the ignorant assist you in achieving a
'connection'!
 
I am trying to conect to the internet through phone dial up, my server is
xtra. My computer is XP. I'm hoping thats what you mean. I have done
system restore to an ealier date, that helped a little but after it has been
sitting a while I have to re boot to get back on the internet. Thanks.
