Connecting Wireless

M

Martin Racette

Hi,

I 'm trying to connect my friend's notebook using it's integrated wireless card.
The notebook sees that there is a wireless network but can not connect, I have
provided him with a key but still no luck.

The notebook is a Toshiba A30, and it can connect at it's home using wireless
connection with the same key.

BTW. I have my own notebook with an external wireless card, and it's connected
to my network

What error does the client get trying to connect to the network? Does the
access point have MAC addresses filtering enabled?

The router doesn't have anything else but a pair of keys to provide access to
the network, the only thing that my friend's notebook does at my place is this:

a bubbletext appear telling him that there is 1 or more network available, and
when he tries to connect nothing happens. the help software that come with it's
notebook indicate that the "line" is broken.

One thing that I forgot to tell is that he must use Windows to configure it's
wireless, on the opposite I had to use the software that came with my own card
to configure the wireless

It would be helpful if you can post here the device information. i.e. Linksys, dlink, etc router. Also post if the network at your home has same router/network config as the network at your friends home. Check if the wireless network card's network is 802.11 or infrastructure

My router is a D-Link 624 rev. A with the latest firmware for that revision
installed and using WEP 128bit.

My friend's router is a Netgear MI314 with the latest firmware also using WEP
128bit

My wireless card is D-link DWL-G650

My friend's card is the one integrated in the notebook and only listed as
Toshiba Wireless Card

For my part I'm using the 802.11g at the full speed (54Mbit), and his card only
permit 802.11b (11Mbit).

The only major difference is that I'm using the Dlink application to configure
my card instead of Windows itself, and he must use Windows

The link is not very usefull, since each and every step they talk about was
already done and checked, execpt for the channel since WinXP manage that part
all on it own
