connecting two computers with cross over cable

i am doing a dirct connection between two computers to do the settings and
file transfer. i have the two computers connected with a crossover. i am
getting a message on the old computer :incoming connections depend on the
routing and remote acess service which was unable to start. i can't figure
out why i am getting this message.........anyone know??

A "direct connection" is for using a printer parallel cable, or a serial cable.
Are you in fact using an Ethernet cable (Both a crossover and a patch cable is
Ethernet)? Then, you run the Network Setup Wizard, and select
This computer belongs to a network that does not have an Internet connection.
