Connecting to host server

G

Guest

When connecting to my hosting company for publishing my files from FP2003,
the following error message appears:

Unable to open http://www.mysite.no.
Error: Can’t find any servers on www.mysite.no using port 80….
Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FrontPage Server extensions enabled.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.

My host is using a windows 2003 server with FP Ext 2002 and IIS 6.0.
- http://www.mysite.no/_vti_inf.html shows that the FrontPage Server
extension is enabled.
- I am not using a proxy server.
- Disabling firewalls does not make any difference.
- Choosing WebDAV or FTP server making mostly the same error descriptions.

If I try to access the site live online in FP2003. I get this error message:

The folder 'http://www.mysite.no /' isn't accessible. The folder may be
located
in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename
contains a / or \.

What is a bit weird, I can open my site in Internet Explorer and click the
edit button and open it in Visual Studio or in Word. That works fine, but not
in FrontPage2003. I also have FP2000 installed on an older computer, and it
works fine here to.

To me it seems to be a FP2003 problem, not a server problem. Any ideas …?

I would greatly appreciate some assistance.
Thanks!

I'm assuming that it used to work ok and now doesn't, so:

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download
FP Cleaner.
Run the functions to clear the Cache(.web) files and the FrontPage
Temporary files.

Post back if it fixes it or not.

No, - still get the same problems. It probably is some FP2003 settings
causing the problems, but I’m still confused :).

I may also mention that this particular site was migrated from a WinNT
server to Win2003 server some weeks ago, can that course this trouble?

I have tried to connect to other sites (not my own sites) on the same
Win2003 server just to see if I at least can get the username and password
prompt, but I still getting the same error message.

I also have other sites hosted on the old WinNT server, which I can connect
to without any problems.

Are there references to the old site locations in Network Neighborhood??
If so delete them and see if it helps.

If not, then run the registry editor. Start > run and enter: regedit
and click OK.

Go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage
Explorer\Recent Publish List

Click once on Recent Publish List so that the entries display in the
right panel.
Right click on the Value Names Web1, web2, and so on and then select
delete.

Then do the same for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage
Explorer\Recent Web List

When done, close the registry editor and reopen FrontPage and see what
happens.

A reference in Network Neighbourhood has been deleted, and also all the
Web(x) Value Names in Recent Publish List and Recent Web List folders in
RegEdit. The error messages still appear when connecting to host server.

Can you even open the site in FP using File Open Site and entering the URL as http://www.mysite.no/
And have you opened the FP SE Admin in IIS to run a server health check

To open the site in FP using File Open Site is what I mentioned in the start
of this thread by "open it live online in FP".

In the CP Plesk 7.5.4 in FP Webadmin I can run a server health checks. In
the Tighten security part of the Server Health Report it says:

Your Web site security may need to be tightened. To tighten security as much
as possible for your Web sites, select "Fix this problem." Note: This message
will re-appear even after your security is tightened.

After clicking the “Fix this problem†button, the same text appears after
running a new health check, - as it also says in the report text.

If you are running FrontPage 2003 you may try to open my site on your
computer. If you getting the username and password prompt, it will show that
it is a specific problem on my computer? The name of my site is
http://www.servicekontakten.no.

I did open it from File Edit in IE and Did get the Authentication dialog
- cancelling it gave me just the page in FP (which it should)
That indicates that If I had the proper credentials it should allow me to open the site in FP 2003

Sounds like a local PC problem on your PC
- What OS and or Security programs (AV/Firewalls) are you running?
- IF on Windows XP have you allowed FP as an Exception on Security (Control Panel)

OS: WinXP-Pro
AV/Firewalls: Norman Virus Control/Norman Personal Firewall.

One of the first steps of locating the problem was of cause disabling
firewalls. That was also on of the first advice from the techs at the host
company. I have tried it out several times before, but without any success.

But when looking at the log file in Norman Personal Firewall, I saw that
FrontPage have been blocked many times for outgoing traffic. I also found in
Norman Personal Firewall settings > Security > Rules for FrontPg.EXE, in the
services folder, that external ports was set to “httpsâ€. When setting
external ports to “all portsâ€, and adding the IP-address for the new server
in the Address folder, everything seems to work fine.

The reason why disabling firewalls did not work the first time, are probably
that both Norman Personal Firewalls, and XP internal firewall had been
enabled, and only one of them disabled.

I just want to thank you so much guys for your patience helping me out and
leading my focus back to the source of the trouble. It’s not only me that
are really glad now, but surely also the techs at my hosting company that
have been yielded at in some weeks now :).

Thanks!

Jan
I ran into this also, try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;896861

You receive error 401.1 when you browse a Web site that uses Integrated
Authentication and is hosted on IIS 5.1 or IIS 6

After setting Method 1: all my pages were now accessible again.
You may want to try Method 2: for more security.

Thanks!

|
|
|
|
