Connecting to a remote printer on a home network

I have a desktop running XP Home with a printer connected to it. My laptop
is in another room and I'd like to connect to this printer. I have gone
about the print sharing procedures and I can see the printer from my laptop
and can even share files from the desktop. However, I cannot print on the
printer. A note comes up saying I have a communications error. This is a
new desktop that I recently replaced. With the old desktop, everything
worked just fine. Any ideas?

I'm guessing the printer is a Lexmark or Dell.

Look for other posts about communication errors with those devices.
