Connecting RCA MP3 Lyra player and compact flash to Windows XP

I have a lyra RD2204 rca mp3 player. I am trying to connect the compact flash
to my PC running XP. When I reboot my PC after making the connections, the
CPU gets occupied at 99 % forever. It is not able to detect the new hardware.
I connect the compact flash to the parallel port. The RCA site mentions that
Windows XP will automatically detect and install the parallel port drivers as
they are shipped with Windows XP. Inputs/help appreciated.
