connecting digital video cam via usb port??

MM2 does not recognize my video camera when connected to usb port supplied with camera.
Have Ieee 1394 port on this new computer, but it is larger than the ieee1394 firewire connector I have that fits and works with a lap top.
I have been told I need a usb driver to use the usb port. If so, where and what do I get for that purpose.
Please advise.
 
Forget USB and go and buy a 6pin to 4 pin firewire cable.
