Video Capture Problem from Canon Optura 600

My PC is a Dell XPS-400 with Windows XP-Media Center and WMM2 pre-installed.
It is not equipped with an IEEE 1394/Firewire port. I recently purchased a
Canon Optura 600 MiniDV and have been trying to capture the digital video
from the camcorder tape to the PC, using WMM2 and a USB 2 connection.
Problem---WMM2 is not recognizing the Canon device. According to the Canon
Instruction Manual, I should be able to capture through the USB connection
WMM2.

Is there something I need to set up in the WMM2 software options....or is
this likely an issue of using USB instead of IEEE 1394?

Appreciate any feedback.

Chuck,
Are you sure the manual said you could download via USB to WMM2??
I just purchased a Canon mini DVD (DC20) with USB port for downloading, AND
the manual says nothing about WMM2; rather you should have received (I
suspect) a CD with your camera which has a USB download software program.
Mine has Roxio MyDVD.

Hi Chuck
USB is strange to be honest.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't with Movie Maker.
My recommendation is and always has been to make the small investment and
get a firewire card for the computer and cable to connect. You will be much
happier with the results if you do.

Thanks RUCKDR. Yes...the Canon Optura ships with ZoomBroswerEX and a USB2
video driver. ZoomBrowerEX only handles the stills and video stored to the
memory card. However for video stored to the tape, it says you need XP w/SP2
and USB2 port, USB2 cable, USB video driver installed and WMM2. Even gone so
far as to uninstall/reinstall ZoomBrower and Video driver software. Have not
yet tried to do the same with WMM2. Having scanned various other
posts...suspect my problem is related to use of USB.

Thanks!

Wojo....thanks. Suspect you are right. Have scanned various posts and seen
too many USB related issues. Kicking myself now for not including IEEE in
the original build.
Thanks!!!

Your welcome
Don't kick yourself too hard or sitting at the computer may be painful!
Luckily the IEEE card and cable are not expensive.
