Connecting 2000 and XP on a Home Network

Mike

I'm trying to creat a home network with a laptop running
XP Home and a desktop running Win 2000. I ran the network
installation wizard on the XP computer, and attempted to
do the same using the XP disk on the 200 machine, but
apparently you cant do that. I didnt see any options in
the 2000 networking setup that would allow me to create a
home network. As it is, the XP machine can successfully
ping the 2000 machine, but the 2000 can't ping the XP.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

If you can successfully ping one from the other, then you most likely
have the physical network (TCP/IP) properly setup.

Do you have ICF enabled on the XP computer? Try disabling it as a
test.

If the problem is not ICF, the only other possibility I can see would
be a bad network cable. Are the two computers connected directly
(crossover cable) or thru a router?

Cheers,

Chuck

Di you have any luck figuring this out? I have the exact
same problem, and run into the ridiculous problem with the
XP Pro Wizard not running on the Win2K machine. This
config worked when both were running Win2K, but I can't
get the XP machine to see the work group now. Any ideas?
