XP Home - 2000 Network Problem

F

fripper

Two machines ... Machine A running Win 2000 ... Machine B running XP Home
.... trying to setup a home network so Machine B can use printer on Machine
A. DSL modem connected to Linksys router ... cable from Linksys to 10//100
port in Machine A ... Machine B has wireless adapter for access to network.
Both machines able to connect to internet (mail, IE, etc.). Have run
Network Setup Wizard and both machines are in same workgroup [MYNETWORK].
On Machine A when I double click My Network Places I see an icon for Machine
B [although it is interesting that the name there is "Joan" while the name I
gave to that machine is "JOAN"] ... when double clicking Joan in My Network
Places I get "//Joan is not accessible. The network path was not found". I
am able to ping Machine A from Machine B but I cannot ping Machine B from
Machine A. I have turned off the Windows XP firewall in Machine B ... no
help. Can someone suggest what might be causing this ... and how to fix it?

Thanks.

what do you receive if using net view \\remoteip? if it is system 53, this is name resolution issue; if it is 5, this is permission issue. this page may help, http://www.howtonetworking.com/Troubleshooting/notaccessibale0.htm

Don't send e-mail or reply to me except you need consulting services. Posting on MS newsgroup will benefit all readers and you may get more help.
