connected but not syncing

I have a compaq ipaq h3900 series.

My device is connected to my laptop, active sync shows the message
"Connected" but it will not sync.

If I take the device out of the cradle active sync shows the last time
synced as 02/14.

This has happened before and downloading the latest active sync fixed it. I
just downloaded 3.8 and it has not helped. The other time it did this I had
to uninstal and then reinstall my software and it is too time consuming.
There has got to be an easier solution.

Can anyone help?

I would ask Compaq, since this does not sound to be a Windows issue.
When my Palm failed hotsyncing in the past, reinstalling also was the
main issue. Another cause for problems while syncing is defective data
on the handheld or in the Desktop software. My Palm comes with a
repair function, you can try to find such a feature on your Ipaq and
see if this helps.
