Configuring Fax to Receive on Shared Line

John DeMastri

I need to configure a Creative Modem Blaster V.92 PCI on a W2K Adv Server
box to receive faxes. I need to share the line with voice calls.

Is it possible to configure it so that the Fax Service will automatically
pick up fax calls, but leave voice calls for manual answer? From the prop
pages and help (and google) it seems like if I set it up to auto answer
after n rings, it always picks up the calls then, voice or fax, and if I set
it to manual enable, I always have to take action to allow it to receive a
fax. Obviously, if I'm out of the office, I can't manually "OK" every fax
call that might come in...

Thanks for the help.

Hi John,

The answer is generically yes BUT you will need to contact your phone company and have
them put a "distinctive" ring on incoming faxes so the fax modem will know to answer it versus
a voice call.

Another way is to use a product that routes calls to devices, such as fax or phone. These
devices are in most electronic/computer stores and are very inexpensive.

So the answer is yes with a little help from outside...:)

Thanks,
Gary
