Configurating windows installer

I am trying to install a third party app and while I can download the app to
my machine, when I try to install the app my machine hangs at the screen
'Configurating Windows Intaller'. It won't go any further. Any thoughts on
how I can rectify this? Do I need to reinstall XP?

TIA

No you should reformat your disk and put a new motherboard in.

FFS go back to the people who sold the app or the app vendor and get some
support.
Or if their error messages happen to be written exactly as you have stated
above, I'd just ask for my money back.

Tumbleweed has a screw loose,for installer,open ADM. in control-panel,
services, scroll down to installer,L.click, then up to top of page and "start service".
And/or you can double click, then select, start installer auto from manual, and also,
start service.If it fails,go to run,type:cmd in cmd type:Sfc /Scannow
When the graph starts, install xp cd,exit the info page.Run the DOS window in Min.,
sometimes the graph runs behind it the first time. When the graph is thru, remove cd,
type:EXIT

While I didn't take Tumbleweed's response seriously, I did try your
suggestion Andrew E. It didn't work. I also went to the Installshield web
site and found an article in the KB but after following all the steps
provided I still getthe same error message. Specifically the messages says:

1608:Unable to create InstallDriver instance

So I guess I am will be rebuilding my PC this weekend:-( Thanks for your
response though.

type "1608:Unable to create InstallDriver instance" followed by the name of
the program you are installing into google. Chances are you'll get a hit.
Just typing the first part gave me about 250 hits all with ways to fix this
problem (that may or may not work for you)

Lets just recap, you are trying to install program 'X' (you still havent
said what it is), and because there is an error you are apparently planning
to reinstall XP (even though everything else is OK), without investigating
whether there is a problem with program 'X'. Arent you gonna feel dumb if
you reinstall XP, reinstall all your other apps, try to install program 'X'
, get the same message and find its a fault with Program 'X' (or
Installshield)? Did you post to the usenet group for this program or do a
search for it?

Most of the links found with google give a list of things that 'nearly
always' fix the problem. Note that NONE of them involve reformatting your
hard drive, reinstalling windows or rebuilding your PC. If your car stops,
do you fix it by stripping it down and putting it back together everytime?

If its only this program (what is it?) that gives you this error, chances
are that reinstalling XP will make no difference.

Thanks Tumbleweed for your response(s).

I have actually been communicating with the vendor and the problem I am
having seems to be specific to this particular machine for I have downloaded
and installed the software on another machine. I've spent close to 5 hours
trying to solve this problem with and without the software vendor and now I
see another post today with a very similar problem but affecting all
installs. Unfortunately, I have not tried to install any other software.

Your suggestion to 'Google' my problem is a good one and makes me say "Doh"
so I thank you for that.

Your position on rebuilding is noted and I tend to agree but at this
frustration level, I just want it to be over:)

I'll keep plugging away to see what I can find.

Try it on another machine first, then introduce similar parameters.
