windows installer problem

every time i open a program, switch windows etc, the windows installer pops
up and then fails. in my system info window i located the error and it reads
as follows:

detection of
product{9110409-60000-110d3-8cfe-0150048383c93}feature'handwriting files'
failed during request for component

i really prefer not to run the windows installer clean up app if it is as
invasive as the warnings say (i will have to reinstall nearly all my software)

unfortunately while trying to do routine maintenance on my machine i cleared
all restore points just prior to the problem popping up

can anyone identify this error message or offfer any possible solutions?

You may have to use trial & error to find out why you are getting the popup:

1 Click Start, Click Run.
2 In the box type msconfig and click OK.
3 On the System Configuration Utility window select the Startup tab.
4 Try unchecking some or all of the entries and restarting to see if the
problem is eliminated.
5 If this works, try to isolate the item causing the problem.

You could try the same process with task manager:
1 Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
2 Click the Applications or the Processes tab.
3 One-at-a-time end application or process and see if the problem goes away.
4 To get the process rerunning, restart.
5 If you get into trouble, restart.

If you know how, you can do something similiar with Administrative
Tools>Services.
