Computer won't go into Standby

Using XP Pro with SP2, my Compaq Presario R3000 won't go into Standby if
Standby mode set for over at least 5 minutes. It works for 1 and 5 minutes.
Any suggestions?

I have that same problem, only mine's just a hodge podge computer, not
a Compaq. I haven't pursued it much, but I also notice that MSN
Messenger will not go into Idle mode if the timer is set any longer
than ten minutes. I think it's something running in the background that
must be keeping it active. I know certain programs like video editors
and running the ATI TV seem to prevent the screensaver from coming on.
