Hello. My computer has been shutting down when i run my virus scan. once it
has restarted, the message says "a serious error has occured. a log of this
has been recorded." i've tried getting it into safe mode to run virus scan
too. virus scan was able to be ran once 2 months ago. i tried today in safe
mode and the compouter shut down before it finished scanning.
also, the other times my computer shuts down is when im playing a yahoo game
ive downloaded or when i am previewing downloads.
i seriously hope this is not a virus.
i want to be able to do a virus scan without it shutting down!!!

Windows records events without additional notification that it is doing so.
These can be viewed in Event Viewer, one of the Administrative Tools.
You're getting a message "a log of this has been recorded." It is coming
from a program - not Windows. Since it happens when you're attempt to run a
virus scan, it's a good guess that this is the program sending the error
log notification. Have you checked your anti-virus program's error logs
yet?

Until you get this sorted, you could use one of the online virus scanners.
Personally, I use Panda's but there are many to choose from.

TrendMicro's Housecall:
