Computer Rebooting Extra Time

R

Richard

When I do a restart on my Win XP SP2 Acer Desktop
the restart gets as far as the logon window and then
reboots. The second time through it comes up just fine
but with one or more of those "you had a problem please
notified microsoft messages". I have sent several to
microsoft but have stop as it seem pointless to do this.
One other problem is occurring when ever I use the
safely remove hardware to disconnect a usb drive it
works but I get and error message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You
Richard

Hi Richard !

This generally happens when there are some third party programs that are
conflicting with the windows or could be a spyware attack.

Try to follow theses steps:

1.
Important: Please create a System Retore point with the name: "Intial
Restore Point", so that we can revert the changes.

Step 1:
Delete the Temp, %temp% , Prefetch.
Start >> Run >> temp
Start >> Run >> %temp%
Start >> Run >> Prefetch

Step 2:
Optimize the internet explorer.
Clear the Temp, History, Cookies.

Step 3:
Download Smitfraudfix from
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php

Step 4:
Run the SmitfraudFix Scans:

Run Smitfraudfix
- Update(option 4)
- Scan(option 2)
- If needed run option number 3 and 5
- Press ‘q’ to exit

Step 5:

Configure the computer in the Clean Boot & Remove the unwanted entries.
Before you remove from the registry , take the backup.

Step 6:
- Uncheck the Startup Entries that, you want to remove from the msconfig The
click, Apply, Close & restart.
- Open Registry Editor & remove the following key.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig

Step 7:
Restart the Computer in the Normal Mode & analyze the "Program Files" folder
for unwanted software.
e.g. 'AntiVirus 2009', Antivirus XP or any other fake antivirus program &
delete the folder.

Step 9:
Restart the system to verify if everything is working fine.

Optional: May try to run regular Anti Virus Definition Update & Regular Scans.

That means that there are entries in the system log regarding the error that
caused the reboot.

That information is what you need to get and share.
