computer not responding at all

can you help me with this ,i was trying to open my documents when the
computer made a loud spinning noise very fast sounding like it wanted to take
off,then the green light on the dvd drive,the power light and the orenge at
the bottom all starting flashing. allso the lights on the caps lock,numb
lock,and scroll lock were all on and the printer stayed on . i could not
turn it back on again by pressing the power button so i unplugged it for a
while and tried again .all started up ok for about five mins then the screen
went blank,the green power light went out but the fan, green dvd light and
the orenge light stayed on.ihad to unplug and start again,this time it seemed
to start ok all the start up programs loaded ,when this had finnished the
lights stayed on (dvd,orenge light at the bottom,caps,numb and scroll lock)
the mouse and key board froze ,i then removed them both but that diddnt
help.if i hold the power button in and put the plug in it starts up ok but
freezes again the cd dvd and the fan are working is in need of a new hard
drive

It also froze your shift keys - you forgot that. Just another one to add

The DVD spun up first; I suspect it's bad. Try unplugging it as a test.
