can you help me with this ,i was trying to open my documents when the
computer made a loud spinning noise very fast sounding like it wanted to take
off, then the green light on the dvd drive, the power light and the orenge at
the bottom all starting flashing. allso the lights on the caps lock, numb
lock, and scroll lock were all on and the printer stayed on . i could not
turn it back on again by pressing the power button so i unplugged it for a
while and tried again .all started up ok for about five mins then the screen
went blank, the green power light went out but the fan, green dvd light and
the orenge light stayed on.ihad to unplug and start again, this time it seemed
to start ok all the start up programs loaded ,when this had finnished the
lights stayed on (dvd, orenge light at the bottom, caps, numb and scroll lock)
the mouse and key board froze ,i then removed them both but that diddnt
help.if i hold the power button in and put the plug in it starts up ok but
freezes again the cd dvd and the fan are working is in need of a new hard
drive

Sounds like a faulty power supply, however if unsure as to the exact
problem(s),
unplu all to the pc case, take the pc to a pc repair shop & let them
diagnose the
problem. This you usually can wait for & usually thier is not a charge for
it...

Ignore Andrew E. He is a bumbling nincompoop who persists in
spreading misinformation and bad advice on these newsgroups.

And if a a repair shop actually said that they would reboot your
computer for £70 then you need to grab the computer and run very fast
to some other repair shop where they actually know what they are
talking about. Reboot simply means to turn off and restart the
computer. I suspect that you are referring to reinstall or perhaps
repair, but reboot is not the correct term.

If they are going to charge you £70 to "re-boot" then you need to take it to
a REPUTABLE repair shop......and just replacing the power supply shouldn't
affect any of your data either....

It is pretty obvious that you are having a hardware problem of some
kind. From the symptoms you describe, especially the initial onset, I
would suspect that it may be a problem with the motherboard. You do
need to take it to a repair shop that can diagnose what the problem
is.

Because the problem occurs before Windows even starts to load it is
obviously not a problem with Windows itself so a reinstall of Windows
is not likely to do much if any good.

Good luck

Holy cow - the newsgroup could get sued for trademark infringement with
an answer like that! :)

Jokes aside, although it's in the vernacular, the term 'ghosting'
actually comes from Norton Ghost. The generic term is 'imaging'.

The terms imaging and cloning are typically used interchangeably, but
technically they refer to different things. Both terms refer to a
sector-by-sector copy of a disk partition, but a clone is uncompressed
and includes the empty sectors, whereas images are typically compressed
and omit empty sectors on the disk partition.

Not that I'm a nit-picker...;-)

thank to all the people who have taken the time to try and help me , your
right i dont think it is a windows problem because windows starts up as
normal. their was one other thing i did notice when i fist turn the computer
on ,get a black screen telling me what is loading up ,sometimes it has the
mouse listed and then i can use the mouse wich i was able to use to save the
photoes i wanted ,after about 5 mins the mouse stopped responding. and other
times when i start the computer and the mouse is not listed that is when it
wont work at all ,dont know if that is of any use but i thought i would post
anyway thanks
