I am having problems with my computer trying to log on to the internet by itself. It keeps doing it continually. If I click cancel..it is just a matter of seconds before it tries it again. I have ran the stinger virus scan to check and see if I have a viurs...it doesn't show that I do. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what is wrong and what I can do to fix it. thank you.

Did you scan for spyware?

there are many reasons for this there are several programs from AV software
to windows update that will autoupdate!
The stinger program only scans for 40 or so top viruses it is not intended
to be used for virus protections just removal!

Install a Antivirus program and update it set the setting to scan the whole
drive with all the settings set to high!

Boot into safe mode and do a full scan! See what comes up also download
ad-aware and update it and run it and see what comes up!

Go to internet explorer and go to tools-internet options-connections and
make sure never dial a connection is checked!

If you unplug your modem and let it try to dial do you get an error message?

Check the event viewer

start-run-eventvwr

and see if any programs are complaining about not being able to communicate?

If there is nothing there good chance you have a virus or spyware!

I didn't know about spyware...how do I go about getting what I need? Is ther a certain site I should go to?

First.
Right click the IE icon | Properties | Advanced tab |
Make sure both of these are NOT checked.

Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer
components if a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or
perform a particular task.]]
 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web
page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.]]

Apply | OK

Second.
It is known as Scumware. Visit these sites. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are really good.
Download, install, run, update and run again; one or all. They are all
good, FREE utilities.

2) SpywareBlaster
[[SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from
ever being installed.
The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And
SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.]]

Hi songbird,

I didn't know about spyware...how do I go about getting what I need? Is ther a certain site I should go to?

More info about parasites:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

Go here:

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces

so experts tell you what is good and what is malware
HijackThis Log Tutorial

HiJack This is a program that simply searches for programs that run at
boot time, and checks for browser plug-ins. The results this program
gives you are generally just informative. Most of the programs it will
come up with are valid programs that you actually want running. You'll
have to go through the results and tell the program to delete unwanted
programs. If you can't figure out what some of the programs are, don't
just delete them, research them and/or post them so experts can let
you know what the program does. Just type the program name into google
which gets a decent answer pretty quickly.

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.
Ad-aware

Spybot S&D

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon,

available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.
