windows won't let me log on! ahhhhhh!

Help please!! I went to download a video off of the internet and Internet
Explorer closed itself. When i reopened it my homepage was different and
there were security warnings saying i had been affected by spyware, although
the program detecting the spyware isn't even on my computer. It's a program i
have never even heard of. So i used my normal security program and scanned
the computer, deleted spyware and other nasties, but the 'other' warning kept
popping up and was really hard to get rid of. So i rebooted the whole
computer and now it gets as far as the user accounts and won't let me log in.
I have my own user account and one for my daughter and it won't allow me to
log in to either, it just says "logging in" then 'logging off".

I have restarted in safe mode, tried to find the offending program in the
add/remove list but it's not there. I have tried doing a system restore back
a week ago, still nothing. What else can i do? I have alot of photos and
documents on this computer that i really don't want to lose. If i have to do
a full system reboot am i able to backup these files first?

Please help, i'm useless without my computer (and have had to borrow my
son's dinosaur)

The way to get rid of this is to boot up, and select "Safe Mode with
Networking"
That means that you can still get through to the Internet to update New
Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware Programs.

First though, use another computer to download, and SAVE as a .exe file to
Desktop, or wherever you can find it, Malwarebytes and Spybot Search &
Destroy, and copy to Flash Drive.
Then install the 2 programs on infected computer.
Update them(you can as you are in SM with Networking), then scan your System
with each of them.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

To get into Safe mode with Networking, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup,
and use UP arrow key to get to Safe Mode with Networking from list of
options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode with Networking.

And you can use Nero Express in Safe Mode to save files by burning to CD, or
right-click on files to save>Send to>External HD, Flash Drive, etc.

Ok so far i have downloaded Malwarebytes and saved it to the infected
computer. I ran it through and it found 5 infected files, but the computer
can't find an internet connection (wireless)in Safe mode with networking to
update. It has made no difference to being able to log on. I also downloaded
Spybot S&D but the computer won't allow it to be extracted off the disc
(something about administrator policies). I'll try to connect to the internet
using the cable to update Malwarebytes but other than that i don't know what
else to do.

ok, i have managed to connect to the internet on my computer directly to the
modem and upgraded the Malwarebytes, then ran it through my computer again
but it didn't pick anything up this time round, i still can't log into
windows in normal mode.
