Computer Locks up

Computer locks-up after a few minutes or hours of use.
Key board and mouse will not function.
The only way to "Wake-up" computer is to turn it off and
then power-up.

Lock ups are usually bad memory chips, or heat/damage to the MoBo/CPU

i have the same problem
my computer just recently started doing this and my new memory
chip has been working for about a year and a half

is this something that could be caused over time?
