Computer locks up after SP1a is installed

After SP1a is downloaded and installed my computer locks
up after it has rebooted. The desk top comes up but the
mouse is frozen. I have to push the Microsoft key and use
the keyboard to uninstall SP1a. After that, everything
works fine.

Is there an answer?
