Computer locks up after SP1a is installed

After SP1a is downloaded and installed, my computer locks
up after it has rebooted. The desk top comes up but the
mouse is frozen. I have to push the Windows key and use
the keyboard to uninstall SP1a. After that, everything
works fine.

Is there an answer?

It's a USB mouse but I don't know if it's 1.1 though.

It's a MS IntelliPoint 4.0 if that helps.

Might be worth seeing if there is a driver update?

Some people recommend using this mouse without installng the Intellipoint
S/W which they consider poor.
